Jean-Claude's Story
By Jenny Appleby | Project administrator
![]()
When Jean-Claude arrived at Kimbilio in 2013, he was an orphaned 14-year-old living on the streets. With Kimbilio's safety and backing, he persevered through primary and secondary school, eventually earning a diploma in electrical installation. Spotting his potential, Kimbilio sponsored his university tuition, and today, Jean-Claude has officially graduated as a Plant Production Engineer!
ean-Claude’s success shows what happens when street-connected youth are given long-term educational opportunities. Higher education breaks generational poverty and turns former street youth into qualified professionals who can lead and serve their communities.
Sponsoring university students requires ongoing funding for tuition, books, and living expenses. Your donations make these life-changing opportunities possible, enabling us to guide more young people from street transit to higher education degrees. Thank you for investing in these bright futures!

From the Streets to a Master's Degree

We are incredibly proud to share a phenomenal milestone that embodies the ultimate vision of our work. Raphael Assani, a young man who was once supported and successfully reintegrated by Kimbilio after living on the streets, is now a Master’s student in Social Sciences! Raphael’s journey proves that with the right support, the potential of street-connected children knows no bounds. He is transforming his past experiences into a future dedicated to understanding and improving society.
Reaching university is an incredible achievement, but staying there requires ongoing stability. For former street children, the cost of tuition, books, and living expenses can be an insurmountable barrier. Our Enable Former Street Children to Go to University project bridges this gap. The funds donated by you are vital to keeping this scholarship fund alive, ensuring that financial hurdles don't stop brilliant minds like Raphael from achieving their academic dreams.
We want to extend our deepest thanks for your ongoing support. Your generosity does not just provide an education, it fosters the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and changemakers. We look forward to supporting more determined students on their journey to higher education, made entirely possible by your belief in their future. Let's keep sending them to university!

Educational Opportunities

University Students
Hi, thank you for your financial support for this project which enables former street children to go on to study at university. We advised in the last quarterly report that a second ex-Kimbilio student had graduated. At the moment, we have five students who are being supported in their studies at university by your generosity.
Every child deserves the opportunity of an education, and the new Kimbilio School enables street children to catch up on the learning that they may have missed. Now, this Project is enabling those children who wish to continue their education at university to have the opportunity to do this. What a gift supporters like you are offering these former street children!
Education is also key to removing a child from the cycle of poverty. The prospect of a good job increases as the child goes on to university and acquires more knowledge and skills.
Thank you again for your support.
