Challenge

Hurricanes Otis and John have shown the gender inequalities in Acapulco, seriously affecting the lives and well-being of rural and urban women who lost all their assets, their jobs, closed their businesses, affected their mental health, were displaced from their homes, faced precarious conditions and increased their vulnerability. This project focuses on 1000 women who are in any of these conditions and who have found it difficult to recover personally, for their families and their communities.

Solution

Through self-care group therapies (post-traumatic stress management), empowerment and disaster response workshops, employment and self-employment training, emergency kit deliveries and entrepreneurship, we will strengthen women emotionally, physically and economically, providing immediate response to future disasters, strengthening their physical and mental health, generating income, and creating support and solidarity networks among women to promote cooperation and community resilience.

Long-Term Impact

The project will empower 1,000 women from rural and suburban areas of Acapulco affected by Hurricanes Otis and John, helping them to create a resilient community. Not only will they recover from the disaster, but they will also acquire tools to face future challenges. Their economic autonomy will be promoted, reducing their dependence on external aid and contributing to the development of their communities. Gender equality will be promoted, giving women a voice and power to lead their recovery.
