Rooted Wisdom Africa is a Ugandan organization creating skill-building centers and demonstration farms in south-central Uganda. These centers feature multi-purpose spaces for education and events, vocational training in trades like tailoring and mechanics, markets for local entrepreneurs, and hands-on agricultural education, serving over 11,000 Ugandans earning less than 49 cents a day. After becoming fully operational, each center is handed over to the local community for complete ownership.
Our partner communities in Jjaga face critical challenges: 90% unemployment, reliance on subsistence farming, and living on less than 50 cents a day. Education is limited, with 70% having only primary school education, and 80% of high school graduates remain unemployed. There is also a lack of skilled labor, agricultural expertise, and economic opportunity. Climate change, complex agroecosystems, population growth, and rising food demands have made traditional farming methods less effective.
The project is designed to significantly improve individual and community outcomes, focusing on increased income, enhanced economic security, food security, women's empowerment, and environmental sustainability. By equipping community members with agricultural, business, and vocational skills, the center will enable participants to secure sustainable incomes. Families will be able to send their children to school, build homes, upgrade sanitation facilities, and access healthcare.
The project aims for long-term community transformation. Improved agricultural practices will enhance food security, while vocational training stimulates the local economy and fosters small businesses. Increased incomes will support services like veterinary care and medical centers. The center also promotes sustainable farming, mitigating environmental degradation, reducing emissions, and ensuring long-term success for people and the environment.
