Since 2002, the Tufenkian Foundation's Family & Community (F&C) NGO has supported over 8,000 vulnerable children in Armenia, including those forcibly displaced from Artsakh in 2023. Operating in five regions, F&C's Arts and Crafts Therapy Program provides creative outlets like drawing, pottery, singing, and puppet theatre to help children heal from trauma, build resilience, and reconnect with their culture.
The Family & Community NGO supports children affected by poverty and trauma, particularly those displaced from Artsakh. Over 31.7% of Armenian children live in poverty, with even higher rates in the NGO's service areas, and displaced families face added financial challenges. Poverty and displacement cause trauma, stress, and malnutrition, impacting mental and physical health. These struggles also hinder social, emotional, and academic development, limiting children's future opportunities.
The Arts and Crafts Therapy Program by Family & Community supports children through creative activities that promote healing, resilience, and social integration. Key solutions include expressive arts like drawing and puppet theatre to process trauma, singing and dancing to reconnect with Armenian heritage, and structured environments to build resilience and social-emotional skills. Tailored activities for Artsakh refugees help them adjust to new environments, breaking the cycle of hardship.
The Arts and Crafts Therapy Program creates lasting impacts by improving emotional well-being through resilience and coping skills, fostering social integration for displaced children, and breaking the cycle of poverty by supporting mental, emotional, and academic growth. It strengthens communities by empowering children to contribute to a cohesive society and preserves Armenian culture through heritage-based activities. This approach ensures a brighter future for participants and their families
