Reginah Sanyu's school visit: The joy in mentorship is community

Over the past six years, I have been involved in a virtual mentorship and support program for students in our scholarship program. For the most part, our connection was maintained through video calls, letter writing, and other forms of distance communication. Sometimes, the connection was sustained by simply paying down their school fees balance and eagerly awaiting their grades.

It wasn't until February 2025 that I finally had the opportunity to meet them in person at Busoga High School. I was there to wish them good luck and offer encouragement as they prepared for their national exams. The generosity of our donor family and friends made this face-to-face interaction with the students possible. The experience was incredibly valuable and taught me that my physical presence was even more important than the financial donations I wished to provide.

Today, the Senior 4 candidates diligently prepare to pass their National Exams. While they still require our assistance in covering the remaining school fees balance, I believe it's important for us to take a moment to pause and reflect on the true meaning of the EarlyBird journey. It's about doing little things with passion, and it's not solely about paying school fees. It's also about the shared stories, the connections built across time and space, the smiles that radiate hope restored, and especially the sense of relief and support from knowing someone cares.

This is the power of mentorship, community, and the transformative impact of consistent presence and support. It's about showing up, time and time again, and making a difference in the lives of these students. It's about investing in their future and empowering them to achieve their dreams.

Thank you so much for your continued support. And for believing in our mission.

With gratitude,

Reginah Sanyu, #doinglittlethingswithpassion
