Bell Foundation for the Less Privileged (BFTLP) supports single mothers in Myanzi, Uganda, through vocational skills training and startup capital to help them build sustainable livelihoods. Having supported 10 women toward self-employment, BFTLP now seeks to deepen this support and reach 10-20 additional single mothers who could not previously be helped due to limited funding.
Single mothers in Myanzi face significant barriers to economic independence, including limited access to startup capital, vocational skills, and stable housing, making it difficult to consistently provide for their children. BFTLP has identified 10-20 additional single mothers in the community who need this same support but could not be enrolled due to funding constraints. Without continued support, even women who have started small businesses can struggle to sustain or grow them.
This project will provide vocational skills training (including tailoring, soap making, liquid soap production, and book making), startup capital, and rent support to 10-20 additional single mothers, while deepening support for BFTLP's current 10 participants through the introduction of savings groups and business mentorship. Together, these interventions are designed to help participants launch and sustain viable small businesses that can support their families long-term.
This project will empower 25 single mothers to achieve sustainable economic independence, allowing them to consistently provide for their children's health, education, and housing needs. Savings groups and mentorship build lasting financial skills and peer networks that continue beyond the life of the project. As mothers achieve greater economic stability, their children benefit through improved access to education, healthcare, and stable housing, also reducing the risk of sexual exploitation.
