Challenge

Menstrual hygiene is a major barrier to education in Uganda among girl child , where 1 in 10 girls misses school during menstruation & many lose up to 24 school days per year due to lack of pads. Most families cannot afford sanitary products, forcing girls to use unsafe materials resulting into dropping out of school. At Future Stars Preparatory School, 100 girls face this challenge leading to absenteeism, low confidence, & poor academic performance among girl child, deepening gender inequality

Solution

This project offers a low cost and sustainable solution by training girls and teachers to make high-quality reusable pads. Through hands-on workshops, each girl gains skills and a starter kit lasting up to a year. Teacher mentors provide ongoing menstrual health education, while maintaining safe changing rooms, emergency pad stations, and peer groups ensure support, reduce stigma, improve hygiene, boost confidence, and cut absenteeism for all 100 girls enhancing girl child education in community

Long-Term Impact

Equipping girls with reusable pads & knowledge reduces absenteeism and foster a lasting culture of menstrual health. Girls will gain confidence, leadership, & improved academic performance, prevent early marriage, teen pregnancy, and dropout. Trained teachers will replicate the model in other schools, while girls share skills with peers and siblings. Promoting girl-child enrolment, gender equality, better reproductive health, & a sustainable, community-owned model benefiting hundreds more girls
