Empowering at-risk Teenage Girls in Peru

We are excited to share with you the third report of our project Empowering At-Risk Teenage Girls!

It has been five months since we started working with 80 students from two night schools: ‘Juana Alarco de Dammert’ and ‘Romeo Luna Victoria’. Our 8-session program has just finished by the end of November.

During this time, we have talked and shared tools about how to overcome the past, develop a life plan, and get ready to go for it.

Pamela, 26 years old, a student and a street sales woman during the day, said ‘I realized that I used to be a little aggressive with my customers’. She learned how to handle her emotions to improve her selling skills. What is the most valuable lesson you learned during the program Pamela? ‘I learned that you can do whatever you want in this life. It all depends on you. Never give up!’.

Maria, the principal of Juana Alarco de Dammert School told us: 'The girls have made an important change, a possitive one, in the way they see their life. They are about to leave school and are going to be able to stand strong to overcome the difficulties they would face, because they have tools for it'.

We are excited to share with you our second report!

Our 8-session programme started in July, in two night schools: Juana Alarco de Dammert and Romeo Luna Victoria, both located in Lima Peru, with the participation of 80 students and 20 teachers who are deeply involved with our proposal of preparing them to get ready to go for their dreams.

During the first four sessions with each group, we have talked about

• How to recognize dreams’ destructors,
• What can we do to feel better?
• How to handle our emotions and
• How to participate in a job interview and succeed.

After one of the sessions, Diana, a 19-year-old student said: “Now I know my past does not define who I am” She let her past go. Is ready to start building the future she deserves. She will shine bright. All of these, thanks to you.

Special note: There are 420 teenagers waiting to participate in our programme. The more we can work with this year, the better. Most of them are finishing their high-school education this comming December.
