Empowering the Future of 60 Vulnerable Children in Rural Uganda

Reporting Period: March – May 2026

Between March and May 2026, the PLATFORM for the NEEDY (PLANE) Uganda undertook transformative initiatives aimed at uplifting the lives of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC). Our comprehensive strategy encompasses caregiver support, educational assistance, psychosocial engagement, and meticulous household monitoring, underscoring our unwavering commitment to child protection and development.

During this quarter, we successfully provided educational materials to 60 children, including 28 secondary school students aged 13-19 and 32 nursery and primary school children aged 5-13. Furthermore, we covered school fees for 15 students (10 girls and 5 boys) to ensure their uninterrupted educational journey. The remaining beneficiaries received vital scholastic supplies such as exercise books, pens, pencils, soap, and toilet paper. Due to the Ebola outbreak, we conducted distributions through home visits rather than at our office, ensuring the safety of all participants.

Funding Sources

PLANE’s initiatives were made possible through the generous contributions of various institutions and individuals. Our dedicated interns and volunteers played a crucial role in fundraising efforts through platforms like GlobalGiving and other social media channels.

Monitoring and Support Activities

Throughout the quarter, we conducted home visits to monitor the welfare of the children and assess the capacity of their caregivers. These visits provided essential insights into living conditions, revealing that while most caregivers are committed to providing adequate care, many struggle with financial hardships.

The children were found to be safe and actively engaged in school; however, a few displayed signs of emotional distress, highlighting the necessity for ongoing psychosocial support. Caregivers received personalized guidance on enhancing childcare practices, supporting educational endeavors, and fostering healthy living conditions.

Key Outcomes and Impact

Our efforts have significantly improved children's access to education, as evidenced by increased school attendance and academic participation. Involvement in club activities has also fostered greater self-confidence, enhanced communication skills, and improved emotional well-being among the children.

Conclusion

Despite persistent financial challenges, the outcomes achieved during this period illustrate the effectiveness of our program and the resilience of the communities we serve. Attached to this report are photographs capturing the activities described, with consent from all participants. These images reflect the joy, engagement, and progress of the children and caregivers supported by PLANE.

Next Steps

PLANE Uganda remains steadfast in its mission to enhance the lives of orphans and vulnerable children, even amidst ongoing funding constraints. Building on the progress made during this reporting period, we will continue to strengthen our core interventions, including educational support, caregiver capacity building, psychosocial services, and household monitoring.

We are committed to expanding our impact by deepening existing programs and introducing targeted initiatives such as academic support programs, caregiver livelihood projects, and enhanced psychosocial services. These efforts are designed to ensure sustainable, long-term outcomes for both children and their caregivers.

Appreciation

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of PLANE. Your contributions are making a profound difference in the lives of children in Uganda. Thanks to your donations and those from other supporters, we have successfully distributed essential educational materials and fees to 60 orphans and needy children. We invite you to stay connected with PLANE, advocate for our cause, and continue supporting our vital interventions.

Thank you for your continued commitment to our mission.
