Donors Transforming Lives of Vulnerable Ugandans

Reporting Period: Late October – January 2026
Organization: PLATFORM for the NEEDY (PLANE ) Uganda
Beneficiaries: 60 Boys and girls

Introduction

In Uganda, particularly in rural areas, many vulnerable children face significant barriers to education. The lack of basic scholastic materials, financial constraints, and socio-economic challenges contribute to high dropout rates. This report highlights the statistics surrounding school dropouts in Uganda, the impact of PLATFORM for the NEEDY (PLANE), and the urgent need for continued support.

Current Statistics on School Dropouts in Uganda

  • National Dropout Rate: According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), the dropout rate for primary education is approximately 20%, with rural areas experiencing even higher rates.
  • Gender Disparity: Girls are disproportionately affected, with reports indicating that 30% of girls drop out of school due to early marriages and lack of sanitary products.
  • Financial Constraints: A survey by the Ministry of Education and Sports revealed that 45% of children drop out due to the inability to pay school fees and lack of necessary materials.
  • Child Labor: UNICEF estimates that over 1.2 million children in Uganda are engaged in child labor, often as a direct result of dropping out of school.

PLANE's Impactful Initiatives

Despite the challenges, PLANE has made significant strides in supporting vulnerable children:

  • Beneficiaries Supported: In this quarter, PLANE provided essential educational materials to 60 children, a decrease from 80 due to funding constraints.
  • Materials Distributed: The organization supplied exercise books, pens, pencils, soap, toilet paper, and covered school fees for some children, directly impacting the educational journey of these children.
  • Future Aspirations: PLANE has identified 5 children (2 boys and 3 girls) who have completed their senior six under their program  and wish to pursue university education, alongside 5 others (2 girls and 3 boys) seeking vocational training after completing senior four.

Heartfelt Appreciation

PLANE extends heartfelt gratitude to its supporters, especially highlighting the unwavering support of Madam Jasmin Noll our coach and mentor and her family who has continued to donate to the education project. Thanks so much Madam Jasmin and May the blessings be upon you and your family for always thinking about intervening in our project.

Additionally, our acknowledgments are extended to Mrs. Michiko Hirota, Rangitoto College administration, students, Mr.Syed Ibrahim, and UK online Giving Foundation for the unwavering support rendered to PLANE.

Challenges Faced

  • Funding Sustainability: PLANE is currently facing challenges in maintaining consistent funding, which directly affects the number of children they can support.
  • Educational Aspirations: Many children who wish to further their education are unable to do so due to financial barriers, highlighting the urgent need for increased support.

Urgent Appeal for Support

PLANE calls upon generous donors and community members to assist in the following ways:

  • Fundraising Initiatives: Organize fundraisers at workplaces and community events to raise funds for educational materials and fees.
  • Awareness and Visibility: Help increase awareness of PLANE's mission and connect the organization with potential supporters.
  • Direct Donations: Contributions can directly impact the lives of vulnerable children, providing them with the resources they need to continue their education.

Conclusion

The dropout rates among children in Uganda are alarming and require immediate attention. Organizations like PLANE are making a difference, but they cannot do it alone. By coming together as a community and supporting these initiatives, we can help transform the lives of countless children and ensure they have access to the education they deserve.

Thank you to all our supporters! Your contributions are invaluable.
