Warm greetings from Face Up Generation Aid Organization (FUGAO).

We are pleased to share our latest progress report for the project “Empowering Communities to Thrive After Crisis.” This initiative is dedicated to supporting vulnerable individuals and communities in Ethiopia as they recover from crisis situations and build pathways toward resilience, self-reliance, and sustainable development.

In a context marked by economic hardship, social vulnerability, and post-crisis challenges, this project continues to play a vital role in restoring stability, strengthening livelihoods, and empowering communities to move forward with confidence and dignity.

Project Overview

The Empowering Communities to Thrive After Crisis project focuses on supporting individuals and communities affected by economic, social, and humanitarian crises.

Our approach integrates:

Economic empowerment and livelihood support
Psychosocial care and community well-being
Skills development and vocational training
Community engagement and resilience-building initiatives

Our mission is to enable communities not only to recover—but to thrive.

Progress So Far (January – March 2026)

During this reporting period, the project has been implemented in Addis Ababa and surrounding areas, reaching:

Vulnerable women and youth
Low-income households recovering from crisis
Individuals affected by unemployment and social instability
Community members requiring psychosocial and economic support

Through a holistic approach, beneficiaries are transitioning from dependency to independence.

Major Achievements

1. Economic Empowerment & Livelihood Support

Supported 95 beneficiaries with small business startup assistance
Facilitated access to income-generating opportunities
Strengthened financial literacy and basic business skills
Promoted self-employment and entrepreneurship

2. Skills Training & Capacity Building

Trained 140 individuals in vocational and life skills
Training areas included:

Small business development
Tailoring and handicrafts
Food preparation and service

Enhanced employability and confidence among participants

3. Psychosocial Support & Well-being

Provided psychosocial support services to 120 beneficiaries
Conducted group counseling and resilience-building sessions
Promoted mental well-being and emotional recovery

4. Community Engagement & Resilience

Organized community awareness sessions reaching 1,500+ individuals
Strengthened community-based support systems
Encouraged inclusion, collaboration, and mutual support

Build stronger partnerships for long-term sustainability

Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Three months ago, Face Up Generation Aid Organization (FUGAO) advanced its mission to help crisis-affected communities rebuild lives, restore dignity, and regain resilience through our project “Empowering Communities to Thrive After Crisis.”

Across Ethiopia, families affected by conflict, displacement, drought, and economic shocks are struggling to meet basic needs and rebuild livelihoods. This project responds by combining emergency recovery, psychosocial support, livelihood assistance, and community empowerment, ensuring that recovery is not only immediate—but sustainable.

Through your generosity, communities are moving from survival toward stability, dignity, and hope.

Progress So Far

From September to December 2025, FUGAO implemented integrated recovery interventions across Amhara, Oromia, Afar, and Southern Ethiopia, targeting:

Internally displaced persons (IDPs)
Conflict-affected households
Women-headed families
Youth and people with disabilities

Working closely with community leaders, women’s groups, youth volunteers, and local authorities, we ensured interventions were locally driven, inclusive, and culturally appropriate.

Major Achievements (September – December 2025)

1. Emergency Recovery & Basic Needs Support

Provided emergency food and essential household items to 2,100 crisis-affected households
Distributed dignity kits to 850 women and girls
Delivered winter blankets and shelter materials to 600 displaced families

2. Livelihood Recovery & Economic Empowerment

Supported 480 households with small livelihood grants (petty trade, farming inputs, animal rearing)
Provided vocational tools and startup kits to 220 youth and women
Conducted financial literacy and savings training for 310 participants

3. Psychosocial Support & Community Healing

Delivered group psychosocial support sessions to 1,400 individuals, including women and children
Trained 45 community facilitators in basic mental health and psychosocial support
Established safe community spaces in 6 crisis-affected locations

4. Community Resilience & Social Cohesion

Organized peace dialogue and reconciliation forums in 8 communities
Formed Community Recovery Committees to lead local solutions
Engaged youth peace ambassadors to promote unity and cooperation

Early Impact & Stories of Resilience

A Mother Rebuilding Her Life – Southern Ethiopia
After losing her home and income due to conflict, 34-year-old Almaz received a small business grant and training. She restarted a local food business and now supports her children’s education.

“I feel respected again. I can stand on my own.”

Healing After Trauma – Amhara
Community psychosocial sessions helped women openly share experiences of loss and fear. Participants report reduced anxiety and renewed hope.

Communities Reuniting – Oromia
Peace dialogue sessions helped neighbors rebuild trust after conflict, reopening markets and shared community services.

Challenges We Encountered

Implementation faced several obstacles:

Ongoing insecurity limiting access to some communities
Rising costs of food, materials, and transportation
Deep psychological trauma requiring longer-term support
Limited infrastructure in remote areas

To overcome these challenges, FUGAO strengthened local partnerships, used flexible programming, and prioritized community-led solutions.

What’s Next? (January – March 2026)

In the next phase, FUGAO plans to:

Support 1,500 additional households with livelihood recovery packages
Expand psychosocial support services to new displacement sites
Establish women-led savings and loan groups
Provide climate-resilient farming tools and seeds
Scale peacebuilding and social cohesion initiatives
Train 60 more community facilitators

Sustainability & Long-Term Vision

Our approach ensures lasting impact by:

Strengthening community leadership and ownership
Supporting self-reliance through livelihoods
Integrating mental health into community recovery
Promoting peaceful coexistence and resilience
Linking communities to local government and service providers

By 2030, FUGAO aims to support 100,000 crisis-affected people with sustainable recovery and resilience programs.
