Thriving in School Project Report October 2

By Eduardo Matute | Project Team Member

Thanks to your support, children in 28 rural public schools across Valle and Choluteca are learning with better tools this year. Through our Together for Education program, teaching kits with instructional materials and textbooks reached pre-K and first- through third-grade classrooms, strengthening teaching and learning for more than 1,000 children. Fundación Agrolíbano and Fundación Terra also renewed their partnership of more than 12 years by signing the 2026 agreement for the Becas Tutorías program, which supports 375 students in 14 schools, where 75 trained tutors help their classmates strengthen their Spanish and math skills.

Children are also stepping up as leaders. More than 140 Child Facilitators from 14 schools are leading School Health activities, sharing what they learn with their classmates through peer education in each classroom. Nutritional monitoring has reached over 2,000 preschool and elementary students in 28 schools, and the results have been shared with teachers and parents so families and schools can follow up together on children at nutritional risk. Meanwhile, school gardens supported with technical assistance are growing food that supplements school meals.

We are also strengthening the people who keep children in school. Parent Associations were trained in their roles to help keep every student enrolled. Beyond primary school, young people outside the formal school system continue their studies at alternative education centers, and scholarship students from our communities are studying at the Luis Landa School of Agriculture and at university.

As the school year draws to a close, we will keep supporting students, tutors, facilitators, and families so every child can finish the year strong. Thank you for helping children in southern Honduras learn, lead, and grow in safer, more supportive schools.
