On the 24th of March 2022, IPW team visited a locality in the South West Region called Mile 16 which is one of the hubs that harbour a good number of internally displaced women and girls, victims of the crisis in Cameroon.
The aim of this visit was to economically empower these IDP women and girls with income generating activities and skills. More so, in view of the up coming menstrual hygiene management day, IPW thought it wise to use this opportunity to educate these women and girls on their ability to raise income through this petty business and take care of the menstrual health.
Topics that were discussed during these training sessions were: Menstrual hygiene management, Income generating activity, GBV and Women and girls as community champions for building resilient communities. All sessions were interactive, participatory and the concerns of these active participants were clarified.
At the end of the training, each participant went home with the items produced (Pastry works: Egg roll and Fish Roll. These are locally made snacks from flour which are easily made, less costly and highly consumed with the community). Majority of the participants present promised to get involved in this business as they find it less stressful and easily to manage. IPW promises to give out seed grants to participants who take this business seriously and teach them strategies through which they can become more competitive in the field of pastry production.
