ACTIVITY REPORT FOR THE PROJECT: < EMPOWER 500 IDP WOMEN & GIRLS IN RURAL CAMEROON >

On the 8th of December 2022, Investing in People Worldwide (IPW) Cameroon's team kick started the series of empowerment trainings which will be held in different communities hosting IDPs. IPW, visited a local community called Tole within the South West Region of Cameroon. This local community is noted as a hub of Internally Displaced Person (IDP) women and girls who have fled their different towns to find refuge within this community. Almost half of the total number of denizens within the South West region are IDPs victims of the current socio political crisis in Cameroon.
After several negotiations with the local administrative authorities, IPW was given access to meet these women and girls for an economic empowerment training. On the day of the training session, we had a total number of thirty women and girls (20 women and 10 girls). Some of these women and girls attended this training with their children. Most of the women and Girls were heads of their households (widows, single mothers and guardians of IDP children).
These women and girls were trained on Income Generation Activities (IGAs), which were Cakes and Cupcakes and donought (locally called puff-puff balls). These women and girls were educated on how to market these produced food within the community and they were marveled at how much profit they could make from a day's sales while spending just 5,000FCFA as cost price. More so, coupled with the training on IGA, we also educated them of Peace Building. We educated the trainees on the localisation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSC) 1325 which expressly recognises the effort of women in the peace building process. We encouraged these trainees to be actors of peace within the Tole community. A brief talk on Gender Based Violence (GBV), factors and manifestations were taught to these trainees and a referral pathway to services was shared to them.
The training ended with a huge success recorded. The participants tasted the products they jointly produced and were surprised at the dormant cooking skills they had. Their self-confidence was increased as they promised to carryout similar IGAs within the community to help take care of their family responsibilities, send their children to school, save up some capital and open up a bigger business. What we so much appreciate was the positive energy which they demonstrated. Their hope was renewed and this was evident through their reactions.
We will however request donors to donate some funds to help us establish this micro business for these women who are willing to carryon these activities for their financial freedom.
