Quarterly Report

By Anande Nnko | Managing Director

Greetings from Jobortunity Arusha!

We resumed the office full of energy so as our Hi5 students. We kicked off the first quarter with three full classes; three different classes (New class and two Apprenticeship classes). We have also had great opportunities to perform our Hi5 trainings around Tanzania, getting our trainers off-site and into companies and organizations where they can help others outside of the Training of Youth program

Activities occurred in the first quarter.

Resuming the office: On January 10th our team came back from end of the 2021 holidays. We all came with rejuvenated zeal to serve and empower our youths. We were joined with one volunteer (Frieke de Raadt) supporting the training team.

Class of 2022A: New group of students joined Hi5 family, in January 17th a class of 2022A started their journey as they exploring the world of professional development skills through our Hi5 Curriculum. In this group of 33 students, 17 girls and 16 boys are from different places in Tanzania.

Computer classes: The new class 2022A attended their first computer lessons. The aim was for them to be introduced to the basic understanding of computer functionalities so that they can implement this knowledge in performing their digital assignments in other Hi5 lessons throughout the course. The lessons encompassed basic MS Word, MS Excel, Internet, Email and Social Media.

Apprenticeship classes: Two of our classes came back to our facilities for 14days training. This is an opportunity to hear all the stories and lessons learned as the students were practicing Hi5 Approach in their internship places. Because of their excellent professional work ethics and performance at work, lots of calls from our partner companies asking are they returning to their apprenticeship placements.

Volunteers and Visitors: We love to host visitors at our offices since there is always a win – win situation. We had an opportunity to host Yi-Ju Chen who was our Marketing and Communication Intern last year. So much joy to reunite with other member of the Jobortunity family. All the way from Netherland, Nicole Van Andel joined us as a volunteer for three weeks from February 18th to March 9th. She brought her education experience along and supported our team. We are looking forward to host her again next year.

Its with no doubt once you get a chance to interact with our Hi5 students and the entire Jobortunity team, you will be showed with positive energy to reach and support move youths.

Class of 2021A Graduation: After 12 months of equipping our students with Hi5 professional development skills, on March 11th was time to send them to the work ready for employment world. Out of 29 students; 5 were employed before graduation date, 20 were promised job with Tanganyika Wilderness Camps and 4 are finalizing their apprenticeship program.

Outreach Program: As the companies have started to settle in for this year, we started to receive calls and appointments for on job trainings from different partner companies. Our trainers travelled all the way to Mwanza to delivered one week training 28 participants from Lulu Project; Major comment from our participants; “our game/ice breakers and activities are excellent, relatable and well understood”. All the participants requested for another training from us!

Rijk Zwaan is our partner company that called for a on job training, this time round is a group of nine participants. This is one on one training on Professional English Language training.

Tree Planting: On March 18th both Jobortunity staff and 2 of our Hi5 Classes (class of 2021B and 2022A) participated in the tree planting activities with a motto that sustainable environment for youths.

Promotion and Open Houses

After the tree planting, we held an open house event at Jobortunitypremises in a bid to try and add to the pool of number of Hi5 applicants for the upcoming class this May. A total of 153 potential candidates showed up and a few were willing to buy application forms right away. We also received a couple of phone calls from more youths requesting for more details about the Hi5 course.
