Project Report (period ending with September 30, 2026)

By Ivana Smucker | Director of Programs

In collaboration with our partner in Egypt, CEOSS, activities during the reporting period focused on strengthening the competitiveness and sustainability of handicraft enterprises through capacity-building, networking, and marketing opportunities.

A major activity was a four-day capacity-building program for 37 artisans from Beni Suef and Al Minya Governorates, led by two American experts. The training combined practical and interactive learning approaches to enhance participants’ skills in product development and design, quality assurance and craftsmanship, branding and marketing, and product presentation and display.

Pre- and post-training assessments demonstrated substantial improvements in participants’ knowledge and practical competencies, with an overall improvement of 57.8%. The greatest progress was recorded in quality and production (63.8%), followed by product innovation (62.1%) and marketing (51.2%). These results reflect the outcomes of the four-day training conducted by the American experts.

Participant feedback indicated a high level of satisfaction with the training, with many reporting increased confidence and practical changes they had already begun implementing in their businesses. Matchmaking sessions and working group activities were among the most highly valued components, providing opportunities to exchange experiences, strengthen networking, and explore potential collaboration and market linkages.

Through a partnership with the private sector, eight female craft-makers from Al Minya Governorate participated in the three-day Herz Bazaar, showcasing handmade and heritage products. The event provided opportunities to reach new customers, increase product visibility, generate direct sales, and receive valuable feedback on product design, quality, pricing, and presentation.

Next Steps

The local training program will continue with four days of training for approximately 40 female craft-makers, focusing on the Micro Business Game to strengthen business management and decision-making skills. This activity was postponed from the previous quarter at the request of the trainers.

The program will also continue engaging U.S.-based experts and organizations to conduct online information sessions on global trends in handicraft sales and provide additional resources to strengthen the capacities of local handicraft makers.

In addition, continued participation in handicraft exhibitions will provide further opportunities for product promotion, market access, customer engagement, and business development.
