Summary of the Project:

This project aims to critically analyze the causes, challenges, and the justice system related to juvenile delinquency in Kurigram, Bangladesh. Considering the underlying factors the project shall addresses possible solutions to this pressing issue aiming to provide legal support services for 100 juveniles in close contact with Probation Officer (Appointed by the Government to deal the case) to caring the juvenile issues at Kurigram District in Bangladesh.

This project also aims to shed light on the critical issue of juvenile delinquency and provide valuable insights to address this pressing concern effectively seeks to contribute to the development of a more effective and child-friendly juvenile justice system in Kurigram, Bangladesh. The project shall deal to setting up a core team of experts in collaboration with local Social Service Department of Government to help, protect and provide legal services where necessary. VIEW will play a catalyst role in bringing about uniformity in thought insofar as the rights of children in the region are concerned.

The project intervene two categories of services were delivered: (1) juvenile justice system services, including detention, diversion programs, probation and parole programs, legal services, and police services; and (2) services designed to correct juveniles' behavioral problems, whether or not they were in the juvenile justice system. This review examined the dealings with the convicted offenders over time by the police, child services, and health and education services in Kurigram, Bangladesh. Specifically considered are the changes needed in the future to improve service delivery to young offenders.  

Objectives:

The primary objective of this project is to reduce the incidence of juvenile delinquency in Bangladesh by addressing the root causes and providing support and intervention for at-risk youth. 

Targeted Population: Juvenile Delinquency Boys and Girls who are ignored by justice System in Bangladesh. 

Proposed / Geographic Area: Kurigram District in Bangladesh. 

Timeline: The project is expected to span 24 months from the approval of the project likely from July 2024. 

Expected Outcomes: By implementing the proposed activities, we anticipate achieving the following outcomes:

v  At least 80% Increased awareness and understanding of juvenile delinquency in Kurigram,Bangladesh.

v  Implementation of effective preventive measures functional in communities.

v  Successful rehabilitation and reintegration of juvenile offenders are well coordinated.

v  Long-term reduction in juvenile delinquency rates by the ends of the project is expected to 80%.

v  Establish a vertical and horizontal linkage with stakeholders to help juvenile cases

v  Legal support services are extended for juvenile delinquency in Kurigram,Bangladesh.

v  Fruitful engagement of Probation Officer to facilitate juvenile justice system at court

v  Maximized Family participation, engagement and protection of juvenile care in communities.

v  The Role of the Juvenile Court is more responsive and supportive. 

Achievement of the project:

In fact, no visible insights of the project were achieved during the period. Only we deal with the probationary officer deputed by the Department of Social Service, Government of Bangladesh while the case is in place. No substantial progress did not happen to be shown. 

Monitoring of the project: Monitoring is a continuous process of the project to ensure activities is done as per planed. The project staffs regularly monitor the activities in the field followed by a set management information system (MIS). Any short fall or deviation is reported will be discussed in monthly staff coordination meeting and action will be chartered as decision was madethe project will set a monitoring committee composed of five members of which three of professional staffs from VIEW and remaining two from board members. Project coordinator will be responsible or coordination and reporting.

Appeals:

The project interventions we have been started from early July,2024 and continued according to project plan. Some activities have been just started and while others activities will also be taken into consideration to implement. Budgetary funding is necessary to implement the programmes. By this time no funding were arranged through GlobalGiving to meet the operational cost. This project would not have been possible without the kind support and help of donors, friends and any individuals. To support the project fund raising is continued under GlobalGiving and we hope that all the people who are willingly would like to extend their support for the project is highly appreciated. The promotion of justice and equality within the criminal justice system is vital for a fair and equitable society. This project proposal outlines a comprehensive approach to address existing disparities and implement measures to improve fairness, transparency, and equality. By collaborating with stakeholders, conducting research, and implementing pilot programs, we aim to create lasting change that will benefit individuals, communities, and society as a whole.
