During the past quarter, the Tanzania Social Light Foundation (TSLF) successfully implemented its Women’s Economic Empowerment Program under Project HOPE in Kisarawe District, Coast Region. The program focused on strengthening the capacity of 2 Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs) in Msanga ward, directly empowering 45 women with practical knowledge in financial literacy, savings and loan management, group governance, and income generation.
Women in Kisarawe face persistent economic marginalization due to limited access to formal financial services, financial literacy, and sustainable income-generating skills. While community microfinance groups exist, many lack the governance structures and technical know-how needed to thrive long-term.
Through interactive training, mentorship, and follow-up visits, this initiative enhanced women’s economic agency, improved group sustainability, and supported household livelihoods. The success of this phase lays the groundwork for future scaling and sustainability.
