Empowering Rural Women Through Microcredit

By AHADI | CORDINATOR

Across rural communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo, many women work every day to support their families through small-scale trading, farming, and informal businesses. Yet limited access to capital, business training, financial services, and markets keeps many of these women trapped in low-income activities. The Mama Ni Nguvu project, led by DYJEPREDHU ASBL, was created to help change this reality by giving vulnerable women the knowledge, confidence, and financial opportunities they need to build stronger and more sustainable livelihoods. Through revolving microcredit, financial literacy, business skills, and market-access support, the project seeks to help women move from survival-based activities toward viable micro-enterprises.

At this stage, US$0 has been raised toward the project’s US$90,000 funding goal. We believe that this does not represent a lack of need—it highlights how urgently support is required. The project is currently in its preparation and mobilization phase, including the identification of qualified trainers and potential learners who will participate in the program. The planned activities include training in entrepreneurship and financial management, access to revolving micro-loans, networking among women traders, support for market opportunities, and awareness of women's economic rights. The project timeline initially envisaged the launch of these activities in November 2025, and continued resource mobilization is essential to ensure that the initiative can reach the women it was designed to serve.

The expected impact goes beyond providing loans. We want women to gain the ability to manage their businesses, increase their income, plan for the future, and make stronger economic decisions for their families. As their enterprises become more stable, women can contribute more consistently to household nutrition, healthcare, children's education, and overall family well-being. By helping women strengthen their businesses, Mama Ni Nguvu also aims to contribute to a gradual transition from vulnerable informal activities toward more structured and sustainable small and medium-sized enterprises.

We are deeply grateful to GlobalGiving for its collaboration and for helping DYJEPREDHU ASBL connect this initiative with a wider community of international supporters. We now invite individuals, foundations, companies, and other partners to stand with these women and invest in an initiative with the potential to create lasting change. Every contribution can help turn a small business idea into an opportunity, an opportunity into income, and income into a more secure future for an entire family. We thank all our current and future donors for believing in rural women in the DRC and for helping us move closer to our US$90,000 goal. Together, we can help make Mama Ni Nguvu—“Mother is Strength”—a reality for the women and families who need it most.
