Refugee women in Kigoma face significant economic challenges, with limited access to employment and sustainable livelihoods.Smart agriculture offers an opportunity to improve food production, increase household income, and reduce poverty. This project will equip women with climate-smart farming skills, quality seeds, and agricultural tools. Participants will establish productive gardens and small-scale farms that generate food and income. The project aims to empower women, strengthen self-reliance
Many refugee women depend on humanitarian assistance and have few opportunities to earn a stable income. Limited access to land, agricultural knowledge, and farming inputs reduces food production and economic opportunities. Rising food prices and environmental pressures increase household vulnerability. Women often struggle to support their children's education, nutrition, and healthcare needs. Without sustainable livelihoods, poverty remains a persistent challenge in refugee communities.
The project will train refugee women in smart agriculture techniques such as water conservation, composting, climate-resilient crop production, and kitchen gardening. Participants will receive seeds, farming tools, and ongoing technical support. Demonstration plots will be established to showcase best agricultural practices. Women will be organized into farming groups to strengthen knowledge sharing and collective marketing. Increased crop yields and sales will help women earn income of society.
Women will gain practical agricultural skills that remain useful long after the project ends. Increased food production will improve household nutrition and reduce dependence on aid. Income generated from agricultural activities will help families meet essential needs and invest in education. Stronger women's farming groups will promote community resilience and economic cooperation. The project will contribute to long-term poverty reduction and self-reliance among refugee households.
