Progress Report to GlobalGiving: June - August 2025
Project: HELP GIRLS & WOMEN BUILD CLIMATE HEALTH RESILIENCE IN KENYA
Reporting Period: June 1, 2025 - August 31, 2025
Prepared by Project Leader: Ms. Faith Luvembe
Dear GlobalGiving Community,
We are excited to share an update on our journey and the crucial progress we've made over the last
three months. Thanks to your support, our project has raised $184 so far, a vital early contribution
that has allowed us to begin preparing the foundation for meaningful on-the-ground impact. We have
been focused on ensuring our approach is both strategic and deeply rooted in the community's needs,
particularly for adolescent girls and young women in the Lake Victoria Basin and Coastal Regions.
Laying the Foundation: June - July 2025
Our initial focus was on a critical preparatory phase. We spent June and July building local
partnerships, designing our resilience workshops, and aligning with schools and community leaders
in East Asembo, Kenya. We have engaged with key community stakeholders to ensure the program
responds to real-world challenges like the high rate of mental health disorders that start in adolescence
and persist into adulthood. The school system provides an ideal setting to reach young people, and
our goal is to turn schools into places that promote health, well-being, and resilience.
This period was dedicated to finalizing the training materials for our core curriculum, which includes:
o Climate and Mental Health Literacy: Understanding the link between climate shocks
and psychosocial well-being.
o Sexual-Reproductive Health: Essential knowledge and services to protect against health
risks.
o Financial Inclusion: Skills for sustainable income generation to reduce vulnerability to
cyclical poverty.
o Conflict Resolution: Lifelong skills to manage stress and difficult situations, such as
violence at home.
First Steps on the Ground: August 2025
In August, we reached a major milestone by taking our first step from the planning room into the
community. We successfully conducted our first pilot session with a small, initial group of adolescent
girls. This pilot is helping us refine our approach, ensuring the curriculum and support systems are
both effective and culturally sensitive before we expand.
To give you a glimpse of the lives you are touching, we want to introduce you to Amina (name
changed for privacy), a 14-year-old girl from a lakeshore village. The frequent flooding in her area has
disrupted her schooling, and like many of her peers, she struggles to balance her education with the
daily responsibilities of her household. Our program is designed to provide girls like Amina with the
knowledge, life skills, and safe spaces they need to grow into empowered young leaders in their
communities.
Looking Ahead: Next Steps
Our focus in the next quarter will be on fully implementing our pilot program. We will continue to
engage with our initial group, refine our curriculum, and begin preparations to expand our reach to
more communities in Siaya and Mombasa counties. By the time of our next report, we aim to share
photos and direct voices from the field, bringing you along on this transformative journey.
Your support is already making a tangible difference by helping us take these crucial first steps. We
are incredibly grateful for your belief in the potential of these girls and women, and we are confident
that this project will equip them with the lifelong coping skills they need to build healthier and more
resilient futures for themselves and their families.
