Without health workers, broken bones go unset; chronic illnesses go undiagnosed and untreated; fragile newborns go without life-saving care. There is no health without health workers, and there are no health workers without proper education and training. Your support of Health Volunteers Overseas will lead to qualified volunteers working directly with 4,000 health workers and students around the world each year to bring knowledge, skills and support to ensure more care is available.
The delivery of health care services in any country depends on the presence of health care professionals, but there is a global shortage of more than 17 million health care providers - a shortage that disproportionately affects resource-scarce countries. Limited resources in these countries mean not enough health care professionals receive training and few have professional support and the opportunity to expand their skills, which means patients can't access the care they need.
HVO recruits experienced health professionals to work directly with health workers in resource-scarce countries to provide education, training and professional support. Their work empowers health workers with skills and knowledge needed to serve their communities. Your support will help bring professional collaboration and personal connection to local health workers, which strengthens health care systems and ensures more people around the world can access skilled, safe care when they need it.
For more than thirty years, HVO volunteers and their overseas colleagues have collaborated to strengthen health systems by improving and expanding care in resource-scarce countries. Your support of this work is matched and strengthened by hundreds of hours donated by health professionals who travel to our project sites to empower health workers with knowledge, skills and professional collaboration. The value of your donation will be multiplied many times over by this volunteer effort.
