Safe Care Through Reliable Power

Frequent power outages in Gulu once placed mothers, newborns, and midwives at significant risk, especially during night-time deliveries. The introduction of solar power in the maternity wards at Karin Clinics has transformed this reality. Today, mothers deliver safely under consistent lighting, hot water is readily available for essential hygiene, and midwives work with renewed confidence and efficiency. As a result, more women are choosing to deliver at our facilities, maternal outcomes have improved, and community trust in our services has grown.

"Before the solar lights, I was scared to give birth at night. Now, I felt safe, and the midwives were able to help me and my baby well," shares Grace Achieng, a recent beneficiary.

Despite this progress, other critical departments—particularly the Outpatient Department (OPD)—still rely on an unstable grid, affecting diagnostics, emergency response, and overall patient care. Extending solar power across the entire clinic will ensure that every patient receives the same level of safe, uninterrupted, and dignified care enjoyed in the maternity wards.

We invite partners and donors to join us in scaling this life-saving solution. Your support will strengthen healthcare resilience, expand access to reliable energy, and directly improve the health and safety of thousands of mothers, newborns, and community members in Gulu.
