The Neeson Cripps Academy's 5th Anniversary

By Sokuncharya Kak | Grants Supervisor

The Neeson Cripps Academy (NCA), CCF’s flagship secondary and high school, opened in 2017 in the heart of Steung Meanchey, less than 300 meters from the former landfill site. The goal of the NCA was to give the poorest children in Cambodia the opportunity of the very best education, removing barriers to schooling and impacting the local community.

Through enhanced learning spaces and a focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math), NCA is equipping students with the skills to compete in a technological workplace and giving students the opportunity to shine. With so many students moving into secondary school and high school, we needed to ensure a smooth path to university and into careers that challenge our youth and meet the demands of Cambodia’s fast-growing economy. The NCA also acts as a teacher training hub for both CCF and public school teachers, and with the support of the University of Nottingham, we’re bringing the professional practice of international educators into the heart of CCF’s education program.

After 5 years of operations, NCA is now celebrating its achievement.

  • Nearly 700 students of which 75% are female have studied at the NCA. To date, 274 of these students have completed Grade 12 with 79% of students moving onto university.
  • NCA graduates are winning places at universities in Cambodia and overseas scholarships. To date, 11 students received international scholarships to study in Australia through our partnership with the University of Melbourne. 3 of them won scholarships to study in France, Japan, and India on their own. Many others receive scholarships to national and international universities in Cambodia.
  • In the last academic year, our students achieved an 82% pass rate in the Grade 12 National Exam, a clear 15 points above the national average of 65%. The average pass rate for Phnom Penh was 55%. 2 students achieved an A Grade, another first for the NCA.
  • In 2020, we were thrilled to see our NCA girls ‘The Geek’ win the National Grand Prize. They won the Senior Division with their app "Slek Rit" to help young children read and understand traditional Khmer stories. The team was later interviewed and broadcasted on the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports official page about their success. We are so proud of them.
  • In 2019, NCA students won 1st place in both the Junior and Senior categories in the World Robotic Olympia national round, and 2nd in the Seniors, winning places in the WRO global final in Hungary.

This is a major milestone and a significant indicator of the quality of teaching and learning at the NCA. The return on investment is already yielding incredible results. Without you, we would not have been able to make this success possible. All of us at CCF are grateful for your support.

With gratitude,

All of us from CCF
