This project will help empower young girls in the low-income communities of Mumbai. It will provide them with support for their education, access to quality football coaching, education in health and hygiene, sanitary materials, supplementary nutrition and national and international exposure visits.
Females, from the slum communities of Mumbai that OSCAR serves are victims of deep-rooted gender norms, which prevent households from sending girls to school. 47% of girls are married before the legal age of 18 (UNGEI) and 49% is the secondary school net female attendance ratio (UNICEF). They are denied their right to education and freedom.
OSCAR Foundation's 'Kick Like a Girl' project advocates for gender equity in polarised low-income communities. It provides young girls with education in gender-based life skills. Through workshops and training that incorporates football, we encourage girls to challenge the preconceived roles of women and educate them about their capabilities and freedom.
This project will empower 100 young women and girls, allowing and encouraging them to explore their capabilities and rise out of the shackles of patriarchy helping them reach their full potential of health and well being
