People in many communities throughout Mexico have been deprived of their land and have suffered the destruction of their environment due to unsustainable megaprojects and political interests. We ask for your contribution in order to help us provide 10 communities in Mexico with legal aid and fortify their capabilities so they can possess the legal tools to protect their land, their natural heritage and their human rights.
Mexico is the 5th. megadiverse country in the world. However, it also has the most deforestation and biodiversity loss because of megaprojects and political interests. We need to empower people locally so they can become environmental defenders that possess the legal instruments to protect their land, natural heritage and human rights in their communities.
We provide pro bono legal aid and strengthen capacities of environmental defenders in urban, indigenous, and rural communities in Mexico by giving them the legal instruments to access justice as well as to defend their land, their natural heritage, and their human rights. Communities: 1.La Paz & 2. Cabo Pulmo, BCS 3.Santiago Ixcuintla- Rio San Pedro, Nayarit 4.Hopelchen & 5.Calakmul, Campeche 6.Valle de Bravo, Edomex 7. Cuetzalan, Puebla 8.Holbox & 9. Cancun, Quintana Roo 10.Veracruz, Ver.
A network of environmental defenders in many communities throughout Mexico has been created and they are now able to protect their land, their natural heritage and their human rights using the environmental defense mechanisms to access information and participation. They also have legal instruments and capabilities to access justice. They are aware of their rights and are also capable of defending them, which empowers them as environmental defenders with a sustainable long-term benefit.
