Update on Progress of the Cambodian Children’s House of Peace
Project “Empower Child Labourers in Need through Education”
September – November 2013
EDUCATION
SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR CHILD LABOURERS
The basic support is to enable child labourers to attend school in a safe environment. The education in Cambodia is free and universal, however each primary school student has to have a set of uniform and school supplies to be able to attend school. Even though it is a small expense for their parents but for many families who live in the neighborhood of brick factories it is a big burden for them.
Due to their low income, they are unable to afford school supplies to meet the basic need of their children. In order to help those families to reduce their expenses related to education and encouraging school attendance, the Cambodian Children’s House of Peace provides school materials and uniforms to 30 primary school students during the period of this report. The new academic year starts on 1st October every year we work closely with school support committee and principal as well as teachers to distribute school supplies and uniforms to kids enrolled in the selected primary school in the province of Siem Reap. Each child received a set of school uniform and stationery. During the school materials distribution event, the school children, parents and teachers were happy with this small help and they promised to encourage their children to attend school on a regular basis, Thanks to Your Donation – it can send a Cambodian child to school for an entire Year.
