Progress Report on Empower Child Labourers in Need through Education Project
of the Cambodian Children’s House of Peace
June – August 2014
Empower families to better care for their children
The team visits the brick factory site and the surrounding community two times per week to follow up the situation of the child labourers, to promote maximum of child care awareness and encourage them to send their children to school on a regular basis in their community.
The children reintegrated back to public school are regularly followed up twice per week, either in at school or in community to make sure that they attend their classes regularly and that they can cope with the school curriculum. The team also provides basic counseling to the families to ensure that they are fully aware of the importance of the education for their children.
The Cambodian Children’s House of Peace – CCHP keeps providing support to parents education on how to take proper care of their children, their roles and responsibilities of making sure that their children at least finish their ninth grade as stated in the strategic plan of Cambodia’s education level and makes sure that the child rights are fully aware and respected.
During the period of 2-month school break from August to September the teak works with school teachers and local authorities to have home visits of the parents and their children and to promote maximum hygiene awareness, child rights and their responsibility for their children in their care. The project will provide school supplies and other things that the children need for their education when the new academic year starts in early October. We have planned to provide a complete set of school materials and a bicycle to 20 primary school students.
