Update on Progress of Empower Child Labourers in Need through Education Project

Prgress covering June – August 2013

As part of the Cambodian Children’s House of Peace (CCHP) community outreach project, Wat Seila primary school, located about 40 km in the east of Siem Reap town, has been identified as a potential partner to implement school reintegration program thorough provision of school supplies to the child labourers. The school has 450 students and is surrounded by brick kilns where some of the students working to earn income to help support either for their studies and families.

During the reporting period, we had meetings and worked cooperatively with teachers, the school support committee and community members to focus specifically on the child labourers who work at the brick kilns in the neighborhood of the target school and to promote the importance of education amongst the community members.

As a result, the teachers, the school support committee and community members showed their commitment and to reduce the dropout rate. The community requested the Cambodian Children’s House of Peace to provide the child labourers with school materials and we agreed to do that when the students start their new academic year 2013 – 2014 in October 2013.
