Poverty is the result of inequality in many spheres, and while microfinance can be an effective tool at alleviating extreme poverty, WGEF believes there must be a political dimension in order to address systemic inequality preventing women from reaching their potential and leading dignified lives.
Our Credit Plus provides women with microloans, business trainings but focuses on three additional areas of social capital building: literacy, leadership development and health initiatives. In 2013 our focus will be on creating programs that expand economic opportunities, liberty, and political participation. To date we have given over 3300 loans, providing women an opportunity to create a brighter, more secure future for themselves and their families. Our average loan size is $57, this small amount enables women to start a viable business or a project. We have a 100% repayment rate. Please visit our website for more info, www.wgefund.org.
