As part of the idea of social inclusion through the use of sports ANOPA Project have successfully roled out its swimming project for deaf children in and around Cape Coast. As part of the process to engage 800 deaf kids in swimming, the project has started with the training of 10 kids, 5 male 5 female.
New kids will enrol on the program after every six weeks until we are able to reach as many children as possible. Its hopeful that children who display much interest and enthisiasm in the sport will be encouraged and supported to form swimming clubs under the ANOPA Project swimming category. They will be introduced to the Ghana Swimming Association and encouraged to compete for laurels nationally and among clubs within the Central Region and Ghana as a whole.
In order to sustain the development of swimming among this group, the project is also also training two teachers who are competent in sign language to serve as a transmitting channel in the future in order to help in the sustainability of the program among these children.
As part of the training program, the deaf kids are joined together with other non-deaf children in their swimming lessons. This approach is to promote interaction with other children and help promote social integration and acceptance thereby increasing their confidence level.
Volunteer trainers from Germany and Ghana are responsible for the entire training session during the week and training is very interactive and engaging.
Between the 24th of march and 8th of april 2018 the project will receive two delegates from the German Swimming Associatio(GSA) Northrein Westphalia to undertake swimming clinic in Cape Coast. As part of the package the delegates will engage the deaf kids during their program and donate some swimming gears to them.
This unique project has come to stay and we are so happy you are part of it. Lets continue to support the inclusion program of vulnerable kids and lets put a smile on thier faces.
