Summary

This project aims to support vulnerable girls affected by the ongoing conflict in Bamenda, Cameroon, by providing essential sanitary pads and menstrual health education. Many girls face challenges in managing menstruation due to limited access to hygiene products, which often leads to school absenteeism, shame, and loss of confidence. By addressing these needs, the project helps girls maintain their dignity, stay in school, and build resilience despite their difficult circumstances.

Challenge

The core problem for this project is: Lack of access to menstrual health education and hygiene resources for girls in Bamenda, which leads to health issues, stigma, and girls missing school. More specifically: - Many girls in Bamenda do not have proper knowledge about menstrual health. - They lack access to hygiene supplies, which affects their health and dignity. - Cultural stigmas and taboos discourage open discussion and education about menstruation. - As a result, girls often miss school

Solution

This project aims to improve menstrual health for girls in Bamenda by addressing stigma, misconceptions, and lack of resources. It will provide education to girls, families, teachers, and communities to increase awareness and dispel myths. Menstrual hygiene kits will be distributed to ensure girls have access to safe, clean products, boosting their confidence and health. The project will also work with schools to create supportive environments and train staff to offer ongoing support.

Long-Term Impact

The long-term impact of this project includes improved menstrual health and hygiene practices, reduced stigma, and increased awareness within the community. Empowered girls will experience better school attendance and academic performance, leading to greater educational attainment and future opportunities. Challenging taboos and promoting open conversations will foster a more supportive and inclusive environment for girls and women. Over time, these changes can contribute to gender equality.
