Empower 5o Girls In Cameroon for Menstrual Health

By AMEH MAURICE NGWA | Project Leader

Introduction

The Universal Maidens Association Cameroon (UNIMAC) initiated the "Empower 50 Girls in Cameroon for Menstrual Health" project with the objective of improving menstrual health and hygiene among 50 vulnerable girls. The project aimed to provide menstrual hygiene products, health education, and support to help girls manage their menstruation with dignity and confidence.

Project Implementation and Challenges

Despite our strong commitment to achieving the project objectives, we faced significant financial constraints that greatly affected the implementation of planned activities. The lack of sufficient funding and donations limited our ability to procure adequate menstrual hygiene materials and organize outreach activities for the targeted number of beneficiaries.

As a result, we were unable to reach our intended target of 50 girls. However, through the personal contributions and sacrifices of some dedicated members of UNIMAC, we were able to provide assistance to 15 girls. These girls received menstrual hygiene support and awareness on proper menstrual health management.

Impact Achieved

Although the number of beneficiaries was below our target, the support provided made a meaningful difference in the lives of the 15 girls reached. The beneficiaries gained access to essential menstrual hygiene materials and information that will help improve their health, confidence, and school attendance.

Lessons Learned

This experience highlighted the importance of sustainable funding and partnerships in implementing community-based projects. It also demonstrated the commitment of our members, who voluntarily contributed their personal resources to ensure that at least some girls benefited from the initiative.

Conclusion and Call for Support

While we are proud of the impact achieved despite limited resources, much more could have been accomplished with adequate financial support. We remain committed to our mission of empowering girls and promoting menstrual health in Cameroon.

We therefore appeal to donors, partners, and well-wishers to support this initiative in the future. With increased donations and financial assistance, UNIMAC will be able to expand its reach, achieve its original objectives, and positively impact many more girls who continue to face challenges in accessing menstrual health products and information.

Together, we can ensure that no girl is left behind because of menstruation.
