“This training has given a new direction to my life. Now I feel more self- reliant, capable, and confident,” one girl Bhawna Rathore shares having built her business.
This year, Project Udaan (meaning to give wing) continued supporting indigenous women and girls in Madhya Pradesh to strengthen their livelihoods, increase access to opportunities, and build resilience to social, economic, and environmental challenges.
Working alongside our partner, Mahila Shram Sewa Nyas (MSSN), we reached roughly 6,200 women through awareness programmes focused on health, government welfare schemes, financial inclusion, local governance, and environmental sustainability. Women were supported to participate in local Gram Sabha governance meetings across 7 villages, helping raise community concerns and engage more actively in local decision-making. Assistance was also provided to access government welfare schemes, resulting in 706 applications being facilitated and 212 community members receiving support through special government camps.
Skills development remained a key focus. 40 women completed either beauty parlour or computer training programmes. Several participants established home-based beauty businesses, while 5 women secured data-entry jobs following computer training, earning steady income. Women trained in food processing and terracotta production continued expanding their income-generating activities, producing and selling products such as potato chips, clay lamps, and decorative items. Market linkage opportunities also enabled participants to showcase and sell their products directly to consumers.
The project also promoted climate resilience through environmental awareness programmes, natural farming practices, and tree planting initiatives. A total of 4,195 villagers participated in climate and environmental awareness activities, 142 community members adopted natural fertiliser and pest-management methods, and 350 saplings were planted.
The attached report provides a fuller overview of this year’s achievements and the inspiring stories of women building more secure, independent, and resilient futures. Thank you for your continued support.
