Summary

Women and girls in indigenous communities bear the triple burden of discrimination based on their identity, gender bias, and economic deprivation. This project empowers 3696 indigenous women in 10 rural villages to overcome poverty: 180 women will receive training in income generating activities, at least 100 women will be linked to Self-Help Groups, and women will gain access to government schemes and ID proofs. Additionally 12,000 people will receive climate resilience training.

Challenge

Indigenous women in Madhya Pradesh face entrenched poverty, discrimination, and climate vulnerabilities. They lack access to skill training, sustainable employment, and adequate support due to systemic inequities and limited opportunities. Climate change further threatens rain-fed agriculture, leaving families in debt and forcing unskilled migration to urban areas. The absence of market linkages and collective support perpetuates generational poverty among marginalized communities.

Solution

The project will train 180 women in skills like snack-making, terracotta art, and animal husbandry, to encourage self-employment. 10 Self-Help Groups will be formed and linked to government schemes for financial support and social security benefits. Training centers will provide hands-on learning and market linkages under an established brand. Additionally, 3,696 women will be connected to government schemes and have their ID proofs created, ensuring access to essential social security.

Long-Term Impact

This initiative will empower women with skills and knowledge to break cycles of poverty and become financially self-reliant. By linking them to markets and government resources, it promotes sustained livelihoods and improves the financial sustainability of vulnerable families. Community awareness around climate resilience will ensure environmental sustainability. The project will also enhance women's participation in local governance and decision-making within their homes.
