Summary

One in every 2 Kenyans have experienced violence in their childhood. Victims of child violence live a predefined path of continued violence. Art not only provides children with safe paths out of effects of violence, but helps them grow into responsible citizen leaders and advocates of change. Art for Children Foundation believes that integrating art and mentorship is the surest avenue to provide these vulnerable children with a purposeful life, with better opportunities of a brighter future.

Challenge

Most children cannot tell violence from safe practices. This results to a good number of cases of child violence to go unnoticed. For those who receive justice with perpetrators being aligned in courts of law and or jailed, they are only supported to aid in the judicial process of the case, and or also placed in children's homes. After the case is over, they receive little or no psychosocial support.

Solution

Through young community volunteers, assistance will be provided to vulnerable children to enable them Identify their artistic abilities and receive mentorship on good governance. This will provide them with safe avenues to express themselves, have their voices heard, gain a better understanding of child protection, and improve their self-esteem and aspirations.

Long-Term Impact

The project will create a strong support system for children's protection against violence. The improvement of mental health by both direct and indirect beneficiaries will enable the children to better focus and improve their academic performance, gain a better understanding of gender equality, and ultimately improve the country's human capital.
