Cultural norms in Pakistan often exclude girls from sports. The Karishma Ali Foundation's "She Plays, She Wins" project empowers 2,000 girls across six regions through safe, structured sports like football, climbing, Cricket, table tennis ,volleyball and chess. By training local coaches and integrating mental health and leadership workshops, we create inclusive spaces where girls build confidence, resilience, and life skills, breaking barriers and transforming their futures.
Girls in Pakistan face severe barriers to participating in sports, particularly in remote regions like Chitral and Quetta. Deeply ingrained cultural norms regarding mobility and honor, combined with a critical lack of female coaches and safe facilities, exclude girls from public spaces. Consequently, over 90% of girls in the country never participate in organized sports, depriving them of essential opportunities to build the physical health.
This project overcomes cultural barriers by creating safe, culturally appropriate environments for sports. We secure private, enclosed facilities and train local women as certified coaches, addressing community concerns about safety and female modesty. By contextualizing activities-offering football and volleyball where space allows, and indoor games like chess or table tennis in stricter settings-we ensure every girl can participate. Beyond physical training, we integrate mental health as well.
This project moves beyond short-term recreation to secure the basic right to play for girls in Pakistan. By institutionalizing sports within government schools and training local women as professional coaches, we are building a permanent infrastructure where girls' presence in public spaces is normalized rather than exceptional.
