Dear PGIM Friends & Family-

It is hard to believe that we are heading into month 8 of this new "normal". I hope that all of your families are staying safe and doing well. I wanted to provide an update on the work we have been doing to continue to provide opportunities for our girls and maintain a sense of community during this challenging time.

The goal of Philly Girls in Motion (PGIM) is to provide high quality sports and fitness opportunities and create girl-centric, safe spaces that address the needs of the girls we serve. The pandemic challenged us to meet these needs without the ability for in-person sessions. Our coaches immediately hit the ground running to develop virtual content participants could access from home and complete alone or in small groups. Every week, we post a new fitness routine and sports skills lesson for our girls to continue to develop their skills. We established an equipment borrowing program for girls to access what they needed to participate. We are proud to say our very own PGIM alumnae stepped up to help our community by creating their very own training videos that were shared with current participants. Feel free to check out our Virtual Class Library and get a work out in with one of our instructors!

As our supporters know, girls in Philadelphia, especially from under-resourced neighborhoods, have fewer opportunities, less resources, and face more challenges to participate in sport and fitness activities than their male counterparts. This pandemic will exasperate this inequality, making our work at PGIM all the more important. Looking to the future we are hoping to return to some normalcy with our regularly scheduled programs, but we know that girls will need additional support as we emerge from this pandemic. PGIM is prepared to be a leader in working through the trauma of COVID-19 together. We have continued to work with our partners at the School District, Parks and Recreation, sports-based youth development organizations, and mental health professionals to develop tools and resources for teachers, coaches, and instructors that will help them to better understand the impact of trauma on young people.

We are committed to continuing the fight for equity for our girls and are excited to get back out there whenever it is safe to do so. If you are interested in getting involved in this important work, please reach out to us via email. As always, thank you for your continued support. We will need you more than ever as we continue this essential work.

Stay safe and I hope to see you all soon,

Jillian & the PGIM Team

Hello Friend of PGIM!

I hope 2020 is off to an amazing start for you and yours. We have a lot of exciting things planned this year for PGIM and I can't wait to share! But, before I do, let me catch you up on what's been happening in program since I last updated you.

  • All of our after-school sites are back in session. That means that 126 girls are participating in twice/weekly health & wellness programming with some of the best fitness instructors in the city!
  • We completed 4 weeks of indoor lacrosse programming with amazing guest clinicians. The Division 1 Women's teams from St. Joseph's, Widener and Temple joined us, along with the Pennridge High School varsity team! 48 girls joined us for beginner lacrosse skill-building and the opportunity to engage with inspiring mentors.
  • We are currently running a 5-week volleyball series with 65 girls registered! Guest clinicians include the Varsity Women's teams from: Haverford College, University of the Sciences, Swarthmore, Temple and the club team from Drexel.
  • On February 2nd, 93 girls joined us for a basketball clinic at St. Joseph's University. Alumni from the basketball team coached the clinic and all girls and families were invited to join us to watch the Hawks take on Dayton at Hagan Arena!

On the operations side, we have added six new folks to our Board of Directors and have been working hard to plan out an exciting year of events and opportunities to engage with Philly Girls in Motion.  PGIM has also been invited to be a part of the Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaboratives' City-wide girls initiative, which has a goal of getting more girls involved in sports & fitness AND retaining them! So there is a lot to look forward to this year.

We are beyond gratefull for your support and hope that you will continue to support us as we continue to empower as many of Philadelphia's girls as we can through sports & fitness!

Best,

Jillian

Hello!

We hope you had an amazing Thanksgiving with family and friends. It is crazy to think that another year is coming to a close, but we are extremely excited about all we have achieved this year and for all that is to come for Philly Girls in Motion in the new year!

At the end of this week, we will be wrapping up our fall after school sessions. 102 girls, at four different schools, participated in our after school programming this fall. They were with us twice/weekly for 90 minutes where they participated in curriculum sessions targeting self-awareness, confidence, goal-setting and more, along with hour-long fitness sessions of various specialties. This fall we learned zumba, yoga, hip hop dance, cardio bootcamp and cross-training! Our after school programs will pick back up in January.

Our community sports programs thrived this fall. Over 75 girls participated in our community-based lacrosse and rugby clubs and over 300 girls joined us for our university clinics. Girls had the opportunity to learn from division 1 athletes from Drexel, LaSalle, St. Joseph's, Temple and UPenn, as well as the varsity lacrosse teams from Penn Ridge and Springfield High Schools!

Please mark your calendars for a new event we are lauching in the new year! The first ever Move & Mingle will take place on February 8th @ the Baldwin in Bryn Mawr. Move & Mingle is an opportunity for PGIM supporters to join us for a day of fitness, shopping and fun! There will be three mini-fitness classes, health, wellness and beauty vendors, light bites and auctions and raffles. All proceeds will benefit PGIM. We hope to see you there!

Thank you, for everything you have done to support PGIM's work. We could not do it without you. Happy holidays to you and yours.

Best,

Jillian & the PGIM team

PS- Don't forget that December 3rd is #GIVINGTUESDAY! Keep an eye out for email updates on how to support PGIM.

Thank again for your generous contribution to our work! We are excited to share information about a pilot program that we ran this summer in partnership with the Anderson Monarchs, called Strong Girls Sports Camp (SGSC), which your contributions supported.

The goal of SGSC was to proviide a girl-centric environment that allowed our participants to learn new sports, gain confidence and make friends! SGSC ran two nights/week for five weeks and served over 75 girls! And because of you, it was completely free! Every Tuesday night, the girls practiced soccer with Head Coach Raenah, a Division I women's player, and a team of amazing coaches made up of volunteers and teens from local sports-based youth development programs. On Thursday nights, we introduced the girls to new sports, such as lacrosse, rugby and volleyball. The girls had the opportunity to work with the Philadelphia Women's Rugby Club, Temple Women's Volleyball Team and PGIM's in house lacrosse staff, which is led by Danielle Gibson, a former Division I women's lacrosse player at Ohio State. The girls even got to meet & learn from Kris Thomas, a women's rugby player that has represented the USA as an olympian!!

As a culminating event, we were able to bring the 16 participants with the best attendance to the US Women's Soccer National Team's game vs. Portugal on August 29th! It was many of the girls first time at a professional sporting event and further inspired their newfound love for soccer and sport!

Thank you again for your support of Philly Girls in Motion. We are extremely excited to get our after school programs up and running and cannot wait to report back with you at the end of the year!
