Hello from the farm!
Thank you for continuing to support Thriving Youth Farmers Uganda. Your generosity helps us create practical opportunities for young people to learn, work, and develop skills that can strengthen their livelihoods and contribute to food security in their communities.
Over the past few months, we have welcomed a new member to our team, introduced new tools to make farm work more efficient, and begun planting for a new season alongside the young people we work with.
WELCOMING SUSAN, OUR TRAINING COORDINATOR
We are pleased to welcome Susan, who has joined TYoFU as our Training Coordinator.
Susan will support our training activities and help us strengthen opportunities for young people to gain practical knowledge and experience through the farm. Training is an important part of what we do, and we are excited to have Susan supporting this work as we continue to grow our programmes.
We look forward to sharing more about her work with you in the months ahead.
WORKING TOGETHER TO STRENGTHEN TYoFU
We have also been working with Change Archive Studio to strengthen how TYoFU manages fundraising, communications, information and relationships with supporters. Together, we have looked at our existing fundraising and supporter information, developed a strategy for strengthening these relationships, and created a practical roadmap for putting the recommendations into action.
This collaboration has also produced an organisational system that will help us organise important information, track activities and funding opportunities, and connect our programmes, stories, supporters and communications in one place.
A NEW TOOL FOR THE FARM
We recently purchased a brush cutter to reduce the time and physical effort required to clear vegetation using hand slashers. We have also trained young people on how to use the machine safely and effectively.
As part of our practical training, some youth have also learned how to use a metal file to sharpen their farm tools. These are simple skills, but they can make everyday farm work more efficient and help young people develop greater confidence in managing agricultural activities.
PLANTING FOR A NEW SEASON
The new planting season is now underway, and our young farmers have been busy preparing the land and planting a variety of crops.
This season includes, among other crops suited to the farm and local conditions:
Planting a diverse range of crops allows young people to gain experience with different growing cycles and farming practices while contributing to food production on the farm.
These activities are also part of our wider effort to demonstrate sustainable and practical approaches to agriculture that young people can take into their own communities and future livelihoods.
Thank you for continuing to support TYoFU and the young people who are learning, working and growing with us. Your support helps us create practical opportunities that can contribute to stronger livelihoods and more resilient communities.
Wishing you abundance and hope.
