Sarvodaya has grassroots presence through it's Teach For Nepal Fellows, in over 100 communities in Sindhupalchowk and Lalitpur plans to provide immediate shelter and food assistance to about 30,000 impacted by Nepal Earthquake.
The earthquake in Nepal has already claimed over 5,000 lives and over 10,000 people have been injured. An estimated 2.8 million Nepalese are displaced. Accordingly OCHA, 3.5 million people need immediate food assistance. This project will serve about 6,000 families and 30,000 people in over 100 rural communities in Lalitpur and Sindhupalchowk districts by providing immediate food and temporary shelter urgently required.
Sarvodaya will provide immediate food assistance distributed by mobilizing its Teach For Nepal Fellows who work and live in these hard hit communities. The food item would be items from Food Basket recommended by the World Food Program (WFP) for disaster areas to meeting minimum of 2,000 Kcal will include rice, pulses, oil, fortified blended foods, Sugar, iodized salt. The project will also distribute water purifiers and tents/tarpaulins for about 6,000 families.
The project will directly support about 6,000 families and 30,000. This immediate assistance is provided so that people have basic necessities meet during the time and crisis. Over the long term, we will undertake rehabilitation support program in the disaster hit communities.
