DANA emergency
Following the passage of the DANA, which hit the province of Valencia with heavy rains and flooding on October 29, we have activated the emergency response plan to continue providing support to the most vulnerable population groups we work with, such as the homeless, migrants and victims of prostitution, with whom we have been working for many years.
We have focused on providing direct assistance in mental health and psychosocial support, both through health centers and temporary shelters. We accompany people in their process to improve their psychological well-being, people who are experiencing situations of stress, anxiety or grief due to the loss of their homes and the uncertainty they face.
The health system in these municipalities needs support, and our goal is to provide people with tools to cope with stress and rebuild their resilience.
In a second phase, Doctors of the World aims to strengthen the resilience of local communities, deeply affected by the catastrophe, in order to reinforce the social fabric and provide tools to cope with this type of situation. This support will be provided through community networks (women's associations, youth associations, confraternities...), as well as promoting educational spaces so that those affected can resume their daily lives.
