In the last three months, we have assisted 592 people through 823 consultations in mental health and psychosocial support. In addition, 149 people have participated in community sessions of emotional support aimed at different groups in each municipality, such as the Clubs for the elderly, the Casals falleros and other associations. Primary and secondary school students have participated in dynamic activities for the management of emotions. The main problems detected include anxiety, sleep disturbance and fear, symptoms that reflect the emotional and social impact of the catastrophe.
The organization's focus is not only on individual attention, but also on rebuilding social support networks. This is why we continue to conduct training sessions and activities with local associations and municipalities to strengthen their resilience and promote their active role in recovery.
We have identified that 34% of the people assisted present some form of vulnerability, with economic precariousness being the most frequent. It also continues to denounce the exclusion of people in an irregular administrative situation from government aid, a situation that perpetuates precariousness and hinders their recovery after the disaster.
The faces of the impact, who we have helped:
70% of the people assisted are women and that the most common age range is between 36 and 65 years.
Among the main clinical manifestations detected were anxiety (67%), sadness/melancholy (62%), and sleep disturbance (56%), symptoms that, in many cases, were aggravated by the personal and material losses suffered.
Despite the magnitude of the problem, 82% of the consultations were resolved by the Médicos del Mundo team, demonstrating the effectiveness of mental health intervention in primary care.
