Introduction

At current rates plastic is expected to outweigh all the fish in the sea by 2050. This project aims to create awareness among local communities and get them involved in plastic waste management initiatives around the globe.

Report

This projects aims to provide education and inspire communities to engage in plastic waste management solutions. The more communities who engage the higher the chance of success. The more communities who are educated around plastic pollution and techniques for plastic management the higher our chances of curbing this plastic tide. Every dollar counts in stemming this plastic tide!

Thank you for your support

Dear Friends and Family,

We are the absolute last hope for the ocean to recover and not contain more plastic than fish but we have less than 30 years left to achieve it.

Introduction

Since our last report we struggled longer than we expected due to COVID-19 putting a pause on education and our movements and as such it has been a much slower start than we expected but this is a good thing as we need more time to fundraise to be able to really kick this project off with a bang!

Report

We have over 10,000 students around the world ready to engage in the ocean and become ambassadors for change. These young minds are at the ripe age to educate and open their eyes to the serious and critical issue we face. However education is not free and we need resources, equipment and the qualified teachers to help us make this a worthwhile and impactful project. We aim to bring education to live by providing in water lessons with the use of snorkels (funded by you), outreach events at schools and at youth township events in partnership with the local aquariums so we can take real sea life out on the road and engage youths at a young age. Talking about plastics, micro-plastics to youths is the best way to promote alternative packaging and ensure our future consumers have the knowledge and passion to force large corporates into tackling their plastic waste.

Due to COVID our team couldn’t sit on the sofa doing nothing so we took this opportunity to produce high quality and accredited online courses and content for all ages from Age 3 and above and now we want to launch this internationally.

This project is showing some amazing interest and now we only lack the funds to make it globally possible so please help us with any donations and share our project with your friends and family.

Together we can save the beautiful ocean!

Stay Safe and Thank You

Dear Supporters,

Have you heard about the Plastic Ocean or the issues we face due to pollution in the ocean? You might think of course, hasn’t everybody? Well actually no… You are one of the lucky ones with access to education and awareness but millions of people that live under their national poverty lines, often near an ocean, are uneducated and unaware of the issues we face. Today we face 5 major threats to our ocean and the only way we will win the race of prevention is by educating and working together.

These 5 major threats are:

  1. Pollution everywhere!
  2. Depleted fish stocks (in 2015 81 million tons of fish and seafood was taken from the ocean)
  3. Ocean Acidification, this is when CO2 dissolves into the water it increases ocean acidity
  4. A Warmer world, the ocean absorbs more than 93% of heat generated from man made CO2 emissions
  5. Buried treasure - Research shows that such metallic nodule fields are in fact the hotspots of biodiversity

This is a new project for us but the work we are supporting has been carried out for a while with a proven track record. With your donation we are funding a number of activities globally from beach cleans, environmental public talks and events, funding the cost of the diving equipment needed for our teams to get below the ocean to help collect vital research and monitoring. Alongside this we also run youth engagement projects for example our Citizen Science Youth Program in South Africa and Snorkelling educational tours for young people.

Your donations will be used to purchase snorkels and workshops to engage young people as well as fund the costs of refuse removal for our beach, ocean and river community cleans. Larger donations also fund our dive equipment and research stations to help us collect raw data to ensure we protect and fund innovative methods to help us protect the survival of all ocean wildlife and corals.

As this is a new project we have been focused mainly on beach cleans while we begin our fundraising for this project to expand in the future and your donations will be directed to our youth engagement projects over the next three months.
