This project provides blankets, jerry cans, kitchen sets and tempory shelter material to address the immediate needs of those seeking safety in Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camps and in Goma town
In the last eight weeks, over 200,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in North Kivu as violence and fighting between rebel forces and the government's army escalates. IDP camps are reaching capacity so people are shetlering in Goma town. Women and children are most vulnerable, many are malnourished and some are dying of hunger. In addition to emergency relief, this project provides psychosocial support and income generating activies for women, and emergency education for children.
By providing basic survival items we can reduce the number of people dying from malnurition. By providing psychosocial support and income generating activities we can help women rebuild their lives and provide for their children.
Once the basic needs of IDPs have been met the project will focus on providing emergency education for children in the camps. As well as scaling up violence against women activities to protect women and children and ensure greater awareness raising.
