Baby Wateen came close to not reaching her first birthday. It was the unwavering determination of her mother Alaa that brought her to Al Awda’s hospital in Nuseirat, where she received the malnutrition treatment she desperately needed through the Relief International-supported malnutrition center.

After receiving supplements, vitamins and fortified milk, Wateen’s acute malnutrition improved from severe to moderate.

She is one of over 8,000 people supported with nutrition services and about 350 children under the age of 5 who received treatment for acute malnutrition in this center.

“With the right kind of help, unnecessary deaths can be prevented,” said Asmaa Tamoos, who coordinates Relief International’s nutrition response in Gaza.

Against devastating destruction, continuous bombings, and the dismantlement of humanitarian assistance across Gaza, it takes unyielding determination to save lives in what has becomeone of the most complex crises and operating environmentsfor aid organizations.

Relief International is proud to have been able to provide vital support to over 20,000 war-affected Palestinians of Gaza whose lives have been upended for over 18 months, primarily through two hospitals run by our partner on the ground, Al Awda Community and Health Association.

“The support we receive from Relief International is a glimmer of hope for the future, an attempt to restore what was destroyed, and it contributes to bridging a large gap in health care delivery, said Rafat Majdalawi, General Director of Al Awda Association.

Thanks to generous support from our donors and partners, over the past year we have:

  • Supported 4,850 surgeries;
  • Enable6,550 hospitalizations; and
  • Ensure1,960 births were attended by a doctor or nurse.

Additionally, a learning space for high schoolers was opened in Nuseirat, and 8,900 people received mental health and psychosocial support

Amid increasingly challenging operating conditions since March 2025, Relief International continues to adapt its programming to find ways to serve hostility survivors in Gaza.

This includes:

  • Overcoming connectivity challenges across the Gaza StripLearning space in Nuseirat shifted from an in-person classroom to providing lessons through a messaging app since March 2025.
  • Providing hope when under siege: When Al Awda hospital in North Gaza came under complete siege in May 2025 and was forced to evacuate patients and staff, patients were transferred to a different facility to continue receiving life-saving care.
  • Continuing support amidst the blockade: Despite shipments of humanitarian supplies remaining blocked from entering the Gaza Strip, we continue to provide health services and pay the salaries of medical staff on the ground who continue operations under the most challenging circumstances.

Relief International remains committed to delivering assistance and saving as many lives as possible to reduce the extreme suffering of the Palestinians of Gaza.

These efforts and the resulting impact for families and communities is only possible thanks to the support of donors like you.
