Warm greetings from No One Down Relief Organization (NODRO).

We are pleased to share our latest progress report for the project “Emergency Relief for 1.1 Million Conflict Affected” (Project #69537). During the April–July 2026 reporting period, NODRO continued working with conflict-affected, displaced, and highly vulnerable communities in Ethiopia to provide emergency assistance, protect vulnerable people, and support families as they work toward recovery.

Building on the progress achieved during the previous reporting period, our interventions during these four months focused on emergency food assistance, shelter and essential non-food items, clean water and hygiene, basic healthcare, psychosocial support, and protection services for women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

The continued support of GlobalGiving donors has enabled NODRO to respond to urgent needs while strengthening the dignity, resilience, and hope of communities affected by conflict.

1. Project Overview

The Emergency Relief for 1.1 Million Conflict Affected project aims to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to individuals and families affected by conflict and displacement.

The project responds to critical humanitarian needs through:

F  Emergency food assistance

F  Shelter materials and essential non-food items (NFIs)

F  Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services

F  Basic healthcare and health referrals

F  Psychosocial support

F  Protection services for women, children, and vulnerable people

F  Community-based support and referrals

F  Early recovery and resilience-building initiatives

NODRO prioritizes households facing the greatest vulnerability, including displaced families, women-headed households, children, older people, persons with disabilities, and families who have lost homes, livelihoods, and access to essential services.

2. Key Humanitarian Needs Addressed

During this reporting period, NODRO continued to observe significant humanitarian challenges among conflict-affected communities, including:

F  Food insecurity and reduced household purchasing power

F  Loss of livelihoods and household assets

F  Displacement and inadequate shelter

F  Limited access to safe drinking water

F  Poor sanitation and hygiene conditions

F  Limited access to basic health services

F  Psychological distress and trauma

F  Increased protection risks affecting women and children

F  Rising costs of essential goods and humanitarian supplies

F  Limited resources compared with the scale of humanitarian needs

These challenges require continued emergency assistance as well as longer-term recovery and resilience interventions.

3. Key Achievements: April – July 2026

During the reporting period, NODRO made meaningful progress in reaching conflict-affected households and strengthening community-based humanitarian support.

Emergency Food Assistance

NODRO provided emergency food assistance to approximately 9,200 households experiencing severe food insecurity and economic hardship.

The assistance helped vulnerable families meet immediate food needs and reduce the pressure to resort to harmful coping strategies.

Shelter and Non-Food Items

Approximately 3,500 displaced and vulnerable families received shelter materials and essential non-food items.

Support included essential household and shelter materials designed to help families improve their living conditions and protect themselves from exposure and other risks.

Clean Water and WASH Support

NODRO supported improved access to clean and safe water for approximately 13,500 people.

The project also continued hygiene promotion activities, emphasizing:

F  Handwashing

F  Safe water storage

F  Household sanitation

F  Prevention of waterborne diseases

F  Personal hygiene

F  Community cleanliness

Healthcare Support

Approximately 3,100 people received basic healthcare support or health-related assistance through project-supported activities and referrals.

NODRO continued to prioritize children, women, older people, and individuals with limited access to essential healthcare.

Psychosocial Support

Approximately 2,000 individuals received psychosocial support during the reporting period.

Particular attention was given to women, children, displaced people, and individuals experiencing trauma and emotional distress as a result of conflict and displacement.

Protection Support

NODRO strengthened protection-focused activities for vulnerable groups and continued to facilitate referrals for individuals requiring additional protection, health, psychosocial, or social support.

Hygiene Promotion

Hygiene awareness and community sensitization activities reached approximately 11,500 people.

These activities helped communities understand practical measures for preventing disease and maintaining healthier living environments.

Safe and Supportive Spaces

NODRO continued supporting 5 community-based safe spaces for women and children, providing opportunities for information sharing, psychosocial support, protection awareness, and referral to appropriate services.

5. Early Impact

The interventions have contributed to several positive changes within beneficiary communities.

Improved Food Security

Emergency food assistance enabled vulnerable households to address immediate food shortages and reduce the severity of food insecurity.

Improved Living Conditions

Shelter and NFI support helped displaced families obtain essential materials and improve their immediate living environments.

Reduced Health Risks

Access to clean water and hygiene awareness helped communities adopt safer water, sanitation, and hygiene practices.

Increased Access to Support

Healthcare and psychosocial services helped vulnerable individuals access essential support that would otherwise have been difficult to obtain.

Strengthened Protection

Protection activities and safe spaces provided women and children with safer environments in which to seek information, support, and referrals.

Increased Community Resilience

Community participation in identifying needs, distributing assistance, and providing feedback has strengthened local ownership and resilience.

6. Beneficiary Story: A Family Finding Hope Again

One displaced mother who received humanitarian assistance shared her experience:

“When we were displaced, we were worried about how we would feed our children and where we would sleep. The assistance gave our family immediate relief and reminded us that we were not forgotten. We are grateful for the people who supported us.”

Her experience reflects the situation of many families who have been forced to leave their homes and livelihoods because of conflict.

For NODRO, humanitarian assistance is not only about providing food or materials—it is also about restoring dignity, hope, safety, and confidence among people facing crisis.

7. Community Participation

Community participation remained central to project implementation.

NODRO worked with community structures and local stakeholders to:

F  Identify households facing the greatest vulnerability

F  Support transparent beneficiary selection

F  Facilitate distribution activities

F  Mobilize community volunteers

F  Promote hygiene and health awareness

F  Identify protection concerns

F  Facilitate referrals

Women and community representatives were encouraged to participate in discussions about protection, household needs, and appropriate humanitarian responses.

This approach helps ensure that interventions are locally appropriate and responsive to the priorities of affected communities.

8. Challenges Encountered

Despite the progress achieved, NODRO continued to face significant operational and humanitarian challenges.

Growing Humanitarian Needs

The number of people requiring assistance continues to exceed the available resources.

Inflation and Rising Costs

Increasing prices for food, transportation, shelter materials, and other essential commodities have affected procurement and humanitarian delivery costs.

Access and Logistics

Reaching remote and conflict-affected communities remains challenging because of transportation difficulties, poor infrastructure, and changing local conditions.

Limited Funding

Available resources remain insufficient compared with the scale of needs among conflict-affected populations.

Psychological Trauma

Many beneficiaries continue to experience trauma, grief, anxiety, and uncertainty, demonstrating the need for sustained psychosocial support.

Protection Risks

Women, children, displaced people, and other vulnerable groups remain exposed to heightened protection risks during displacement and crisis situations.

9. NODRO's Response to the Challenges

To address these challenges, NODRO has continued to:

F  Prioritize the most vulnerable households

F  Strengthen community-based targeting and beneficiary verification

F  Coordinate with local authorities and community leaders

F  Improve procurement and logistics planning

F  Strengthen monitoring of assistance

F  Expand psychosocial and protection support

F  Integrate recovery and resilience considerations into emergency interventions

NODRO continues to adapt its response according to changing humanitarian needs and available resources.

10. Monitoring, Accountability, and Transparency

NODRO remains committed to ensuring that humanitarian resources are used responsibly and that assistance reaches the people who need it most.

Monitoring and accountability activities include:

The major achievements reported during April–July 2026 include:

12. What Comes Next? August – November 2026

In the next phase of implementation, NODRO plans to:

F  Expand emergency food assistance to additional vulnerable households

F  Strengthen shelter and NFI assistance

F  Increase access to clean water and hygiene services

F  Continue health support and referral services

F  Expand psychosocial support for conflict-affected people

F  Strengthen protection services for women and children

F  Improve community-based referral systems

F  Strengthen monitoring, accountability, and beneficiary feedback

F  Expand partnerships with humanitarian and development actors

F  Link emergency assistance with early recovery and livelihood opportunities where feasible

NODRO will continue prioritizing the most vulnerable communities based on available resources and emerging humanitarian needs.

NODRO's long-term vision goes beyond emergency relief.

We seek to support conflict-affected communities in moving from crisis and dependency toward recovery, resilience, dignity, and sustainable livelihoods.
