Since the flood from 2019, the people of Kerala has come up with various precautionary measures for resisting similar disasters. The victims have managed to rebuild their lives with the help of donors and other sources which work for the social causes. Don Bosco Veedu Society has taken initiative in various flood relief programmes with the help of the donors from GlobalGiving.
About two months ago we have identified a victim of flood who has been left out during the relief works by the public. Mr. Unnikrishnan and family had been witnessing the adverse effects of flood since two years. They stay at the remote areas of Balaramapuram, a place in Trivandrum city. Since their house is being situated below sea level on ground they were not able to build a good basement for their house even after repeated precautionary measures from their side. This has lead their house to be flooded with water every monsoon. The family consists of two children whose education is also affected due to the situation.
Don Bosco Veedu Society’s timely intervention has put a ray of hope to the family on rebuilding their life after the flood. With the kind donation from GlobalGiving, we have consulted the authorities regarding the reconstruction of their house with basement pillars that make the house stand above the sea level.
The house is under construction. The basement works has been done with the help of Don Bosco Veedu Society staff members since the manpower and labour cost were high due to the pandemic situation in Kerala. The staff members spared certain days from their official duty for helping the family put up a strong basement for their new house.
It is now estimated to be 2 months for the house to be fully renovated and made eligible for them to stay there forever. We look forward for the continous support from the donors from GlobalGiving for leading the family to their safe dream home.
