Kerala has been affected by a series of disasters aswellas pandemic during the past two years. Trivandrum Don Bosco has been providing the victims of flood across the city with necessities and help them in rebuilding their lives. Millions of people were affected by the flood and has lost their shelter which is a basic necessity for every human being. We ensured flood relief aid being provided for the victims without fail. Even then few left out cases existed in different parts of the city who has not been noticed by the government or other agencies and the ones who lack support system for advocating their difficulties during the time of flood.
We have recently identified a similar victim of Kerala flood during our relief activities related to Covid 19 lockdown across the state. The family had lost their shelter during the flood and was left unnoticed by the authorities during their relief programmes. During the flood, Karamana river, one of the major river flowing through the city was flooded and the people living at the bank of river has lost their shelter and belongings. Most of the people has migrated to other parts of the city where they found themselves safe and secure and the rest of the people decided to stay there as they have no where else to go. Some among them has managed to recover the situation with the help of people and some still struggles. We identified a similar family who was struggling to rebuild their house which has been devastated during the flood. We managed to join with the local authority and purchased tarpaulins for the family so that they can put it over their roof. The distribution was carried out by Don Bosco veedu society with the help of the local authority people and the public.
We were able to support a family who has been left out. There are similar families who long for such help and establish their shelter and continue their living.
