Our latest seed distribution has reached 70 of our 110 villages! 11.7 tonnes of millet seeds have now been delivered, with the hope that these seeds will give families the chance to grow their own food, preparing a sustainable food source for the months ahead. 10 tonnes of sorghum-certified seeds have also been distributed to help combat famine and malnutrition.
Today Sudan is facing the largest hunger crisis in the world with 19.5 million people experiencing acute food insecurity. Famine has been declared in El Fasher and much of North Darfur remains at risk as conflict continues and access to food and other essential resources becomes increasingly difficult. The conflict in Sudan is now in its fourth year, and the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate as funding for aid is cut across the country.
In Darfur, the situation could hardly be more challenging. Right now, the seasons are changing. In some parts of Darfur there have been devastating floods, while in others there has been little or no rain. Our volunteers have been incredibly busy helping children and their families in remote villages with essential food and urgent aid. They worked hard to get seeds to families for planting before the rains started, and we have our fingers crossed that they will bring in a successful harvest. It is extraordinary how people continue to adapt, survive and rebuild their lives in even the most difficult and uncertain circumstances.
