In response to the harsh winter conditions, return of families from neighboring countries, and the recent emergencies in Afghanistan, Action for Development (AfD) launched a winterization support program to assist the most vulnerable families. The earthquakes had caused widespread damage to homes and infrastructure, leaving many families exposed to severe cold, loss of shelter, and limited access to essential resources.

Objective: The main objective of this program was to provide immediate relief to families affected by earthquake and to returnees families by supplying essential winterization items, food packs, helping them cope with the harsh winter conditions, and reducing their risk of illness and hardship during the cold season.

Activities:

  • During the months of October and November, AfD distributed 150 pairs of clothes to the children, and 280 families received food packages.
  • We are looking for additional donations to enable us provide blankets and fuel for heating.
  • Awareness sessions on safe usage of heating materials to prevent accidents and injuries during the winter months.

Impact:

  • A total of 280 families received food packages, and 150 children received clothes.
  • Beneficiaries reported improved living conditions, enhanced warmth, and reduced vulnerability to cold-related illnesses.
  • The assistance provided a sense of relief and hope to families struggling with the compounded challenges of natural disaster and winter hardship.

Conclusion:
The winterization support program in Afghanistan has demonstrated Action for Development’s commitment to providing timely and life-saving assistance to communities affected by emergencies. With continued support from our donors, AfD aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable families against natural disasters and seasonal hardships.

Acknowledgment:
This program was made possible thanks to the generous support of GlobalGiving donors, whose contributions directly helped families in urgent need.
